UK Political Alignment

Discover where your views align in UK politics

Help Me Vote helps you explore how your views compare with the policy positions of major UK political parties.

Using a series of policy sliders, you can indicate both your position on key issues and how important each issue is to you. The platform then calculates your alignment across multiple parties using a transparent and publicly available methodology.

Free to use, anonymous, and built specifically for UK politics.

How Help Me Vote works

Most political quizzes focus on personalities, headlines or simple left-versus-right labels.

Help Me Vote takes a different approach.

You set your position across a range of policy areas and indicate how much each issue matters to you personally. Your answers are then compared against party positions derived from publicly available manifestos, policy documents and official statements.

Your results show:

  • Your closest political matches
  • Overall alignment scores across multiple parties
  • Which issues influenced your result most
  • Areas of agreement and disagreement
  • Comparisons with other party positions

All calculations are based on the methodology published openly on this website.

What issues are included?

The platform covers a broad range of policy areas commonly debated in UK politics, including:

  • Immigration, Asylum & Integration
  • NHS, Social Care & Public Health
  • Economy, Jobs & Cost of Living
  • Housing, Planning & Renting
  • Taxation, Welfare & Economic Equality
  • Crime, Policing & Public Order
  • Education, Skills & Young People
  • Environment, Energy & Net Zero
  • Security, Defence & Foreign Policy
  • Democracy, Rights, Media & Digital Freedoms

Each issue includes both an importance score and a policy-position score to create a more personalised result.

Frequently asked questions

Is the test free?

Yes. Help Me Vote is completely free to use and does not require registration.

Is it anonymous?

Yes. The platform is designed around privacy. Individual responses are not linked to your identity, and no personal political profile is created.

How long does it take?

Most users complete the test in around two minutes, although you can spend longer reviewing issues if you wish.

How are party positions determined?

Party scores are based on publicly available manifestos, policy documents and official statements. Scores are reviewed periodically and may be updated as party positions change.

Does the site tell me who to vote for?

No. Help Me Vote is designed to provide information and comparison, not recommendations. The final decision always belongs to the user.

Is the methodology public?

Yes. The full scoring methodology, weighting system and calculation process can be viewed on the Methodology page.

Are results scientifically precise?

No political tool can perfectly represent every individual's views. Results should be viewed as a useful guide and starting point for further research rather than a definitive answer.

How often is the platform updated?

Party positions, methodology notes and platform features are reviewed regularly to reflect political developments and user feedback.

Two Ways to Explore Your Views

Help Me Vote includes two versions:

  • Standard Edition - A detailed comparison that matches your views against parties’ published political positions.
  • Young Voter Edition - A simplified educational version that explores the same broad political themes through familiar, everyday scenarios.

The Young Voter Edition has been carefully designed so that both sides of each question are presented as reasonable and positive choices. Its purpose is to encourage discussion and understanding, not to suggest that one viewpoint is better than another.

Both versions use a politically neutral approach and are intended to help users explore which parties most closely reflect their answers.

Why are there two versions?

The Standard Edition offers a more detailed comparison using parties’ published political positions and policy priorities. The Young Voter Edition explores the same broad themes through short, familiar, everyday scenarios that are easier for younger audiences and people new to politics to understand.

Both sides of each Young Voter question are written as reasonable and positive choices, helping users consider different priorities without suggesting that one answer is better than the other.
